My calendar says it’s only the first week of December, but we already have 6(!), entries for next year’s Pacific NW Offshore. That’s got to be some kind of record, and to tell the truth, most, if not all, of these skippers actually entered in November. Maybe they are doing it now while the warmth of summer sailing is still lingering in their minds and before the winter cold knocks them to their senses, but I bet it’s because they are excited about the new name and venue for 2020. In any case, Souffle, one of the stalwarts of the cruising class, was first to enter. Phil and his crew have won this class several times on their Cal 34. I’m sure they would welcome some more competition in this class. If you are thinking about heading North and would like to do it with the camaraderie and safety that a race provides, yet aren’t interested in a full on racing program, the cruising class might be just the ticket. The group at CYC Portland would love to help you. Stay tuned for more entry announcements in the coming days.
