Off week, On task

Sailing on Sundays Racers

It was kind of nice to have an off week given the somewhat snotty weather we had last Sunday. But taking a break means being on task to do the last of the Thanksgiving cleanup and, of course, yard work. It also gives us a moment to consider how much we miss being out on the water when we don't go sailing on a Sunday, or any other day of the week for that matter. Another thing it does is give us time to think of new things to do around our favorite sport, like, doing a sailor's food drive for the Oregon Food Bank. What a great idea in this holiday season, yes? I wish I had thought of it. Thank Mark McCuddy for the brilliant idea.

So, on behalf of CYC, McCuddy's Marina, and everyone participating in our Sailing on Sundays racing community, your boat is invited to donate food or money to the Oregon Food Bank by sailing up to McCuddy's pump out dock before the race on December 15. Mark and his volunteers will be there to take your donations and maybe give you a little treat as a thank you. We are all blessed that we have the opportunity to get out on the river and so let's show our gratitude to the universe by sharing with an organization that does such good things for those in our city that need a bit of extra help. Remember, it's not this coming Sunday but two weeks out! I'll remind you next week.

Other notes:

  • The PYC club manager, Daniel Wilkins, wanted to make sure that all SOS sailors know, no matter where you are moored, that PYC is open after the races for food and grog with the exception of December 15 because of a club event.

  • We have SOS racing on the 8th and 15th (food drive week), but not the 22nd and 29th for the holidays.

 See you on the river,

Denny Damore, CYC SOS Race Captain
